News and views of Mac OS X and iPhone Programming

Interesting keynote at Macworld this year. As a developer I was waiting for information on Leopard (10.5), iLife and possibly a new laptop (or two), but what did we get? The love-child of a mobile-phone and a PDA!

Seems this ‘Leopard only’ apps thing is getting some discussion.

I posted about it a few weeks ago after reading a blog article about how TextMate (the piece), would be Leopard (10.5) only.

Happy New Year from MMISoftware!

The title says it all! MMISoftware would like to wish all its customers a Merry Christmas and happy New Year!

2007 should prove to be an interesting new year. There are a number of major projects in the pipeline, and with the release of Mac OS X 10.5 just around the corner there will also be updates of a number of MMISoftware programs.

A very interesting post over at the TextMate blog where reasons for not supporting earlier versions of Mac OS X are discussed – see TextMate Blog ยป 2.0 Will Require Leopard.

In an earlier post I said how sales had dropped off in the 6 weeks prior to the launch of Tiger. Interestingly sales are now beginning to increase (and we haven’t even released the ‘Tiger’ updates yet), however, they are still not back to their pre-’Tiger-six-week’ level. I guess time (and the release of software updates) will tell.

Work is continuing on the updates of MMISoftware programs.

At present iCalMaker is receiving most attention. This is because it has a number of problems with calendar selection and direct export from iCalMaker to iCal under Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

My copy of Tiger arrived on Friday afternoon (2 pm UK time) some 4 hours before the official launch.

The upgrade was easy:

  • Make a backup of the hard-drive (I used SuperDuper! which is a great little program. I had made the backup the night before as I guessed it would take around 4 hours to copy over the 50 GB of data.)
  • Insert the DVD.
  • Erase / re-partition the hard-drive.
  • Install the OS.

The folks over at MacInTouch have a useful page tracking 10.4 compatibility. See Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger: Compatibility Updates

As you will see, as of the time of this post, MMISoftware programs are not mentioned! That is because they are still being tested (more on that later).

Wow! Even main-stream media in the UK has noticed that Apple has released an update to Mac OS X: Guardian Unlimited | Online | Tiger earns stripes for Apple
