MMISoftware have released their second application for the iPhone and iPod Touch – a chemistry calculator for students at school, college or university, called chemCal.

chemCal has three calculators – a molarity (concentration, moles per liter, molar) calculator, a percentage solution calculator, and a dilutions calculator.

The calculator features a ‘one-button unit converter’, that can be used to rapidly convert between milli, micro (µ), pico, nano etc. Therefore, no more confusion whether or not 0.001 M is 10 mM, or 1 mM; or l, 1 ml or 1 µl.

The calculator is particularly useful for solving problems such as:

“What is the molarity of a 5 g of a compound of molecular weight 50, dissolved in 250 ml?”

Or, “What volume of a 1 M solution would be required to make 0.5 l of a 0.5 M solution?”

The following video shows the calculator in action:

The chemCal is available for download today on the iTunes App Store, and more information can be found on the chemCal home page.
