Nature of blogging: Content is King
Over the years I have done a number of websites for companies, and I have always stressed the need to add fresh content. The method for regular updates I have suggested is the use of ‘newsletters’.
Now, these newsletter would be produced in the form of actual blog entries. So I have installed WordPress for my clients and set up a theme for them so that the newsletter pages look more like a normal page of the website, and not a standard just a standard WordPress blog. You could argue I am taking business away from myself as the client can now add content to their website, and not pay me!
In all cases, about 5 or 6 companies to date, none of the companies have taken to it. The main reason cited is that ‘it takes to long’. Now, this brings me to the timings at the bottom of the blog. I started it at 8:26:36 PM, but when will I finish? How long will it take? I argue that doing a blog post takes no longer than writing an email, and has a permanency that adds value to the website. This in turn helps with search engine indexing, and drives hits to the site. I know that a significant number of visitors find my site(s) via the blogs and not the main pages. I just need to look at the server logs for proof.
Admittedly I can blog quite fast as I use TextMate and MarkDown, which speeds things up when compared to using the WordPress dashboard… but then again I am a slow typer!
Anyway, I just found a good post on Content is King, so hop over and read some more…. and keep adding content!

End: 8:38:17 PM
(Hmmm… about 12 minutes, not bad….)
