Quick test…
Quick quiz: How many tickets does a National Express train ticket machine give you for a return journey from Newcastle to Reading (in the UK), and back? The answer may surprise you… it did me!
The answer is: SEVEN!
To travel from Newcastle to Reading takes SEVEN tickets!
OK, it is really six as one is a receipt…, but six tickets, six bits of paper… first it is a waste of paper, second, it is impossible to find the ticket you need to show the train guard (who always wanted 2 of them????), or the one you need for the tube in London, the train barriers at Paddington and Reading. Having thought about it, I am sure this could all be achieved with one ticket….
Has the world gone mad?
