One thing I forgot to mention in yesterdays post on my journey to the north of England with National Express trains is a conversation I overheard two young children having…

Child 1: “What did you get for Christmas?”

Child 2: “A new iPod…”

I glanced over to see which iPod model the child had thinking it would be one of the new iPod nanos. I was wrong… In fact, I don’t even know what it was… it certainly wasn’t an iPod.

Does this mean that ‘iPod’ has now become the generic term for a portable music device? Has the name iPod gone the same was as Hoover and Biro? How many kids were disappointed on Christmas morning because they had asked Santa for an iPod and he had brought a ‘generic iPod’?
