I have just spent the last 15 hours making iCalMaker ‘universal’.

On one hand the process, as Apple promised, has been easy. If your code-base is up to date, and doesn’t use any ‘old’ calls, then it is literally a case of clicking a few buttons.

My new MacBook Pro has arrived. This is good news as it means final tests of MMISoftware programs can be completed.

There has been a huge amount of press coverage, both online and offline, of the ‘new’ Mac OS X virus/worm/trojan out there (depending on who you read it is either virus, a worm or a trojan – I think it is a trojan). Articles have appeared in the Guardian, UK and on the BBC. For some good and accurate coverage check out Macintouch.

Anyway, I decided to run scans on some of the computers around here and was horrified by the vast number worms and viruses found….

A couple of users have commented that iCal files exported from iCalMaker contain \, (backslash comma) instead of , (comma).

This is weird…. The reason that it was \, was because in earlier versions of iCal the , on its own caused problems (why? I have no idea!). Anyway, the fix for this was quite simple and just required the removal of the \… I can only conclude that something ‘internal’ on the Mac has changed… Either it is in the way files are saved, or the way iCal imports files.

I am now worried that this fix has broken iCalMaker for an earlier version of iCal. Unfortunately I have no way of testing it.

Footnote: This ‘bug’ fix will be rolled in to iCalMaker and will be part of the ‘Universal Binary’ release, which should be out as soon as the ordered MacBook Pro arrives and the ‘Universal’ can be tested.

This week an iCalMaker user sent a really useful Palm Desktop file. The file contained appointments dating back to 2000 and there must have been several hundred appointments. The file proved to be a really useful test for iCalMaker.

Came across an amusing little story about Steve ‘Woz’ Wozniak over at ‘The Cult of Mac Blog‘…
