When technology bites back – TV digibox triggers ‘SOS’ rescue
Strange things can happen… Found this story at the BBC website about a ‘digibox’ (digital TV decoder box) sending out a ‘mayday’.
It appears that a faulty ‘digibox’ sent out a distress ‘mayday’ on an emergency channel which was picked an RAF search and rescue station and resulted in full scale search and rescue mission looking for a ship in distress or a downed aircraft.
The chance of this happening have been described as ‘far more than 14 million to one’. What is odd is these boxes are designed to receive signals and not transmit them!
