Overview
Web Photos uses a fairly simple approach to the creation of your web, or CD, based photo album. You tell the program which directory contains the pictures you wish to use, you are then able to view each picture and decide if you wish to include it in the site, set a final size (in percentage terms) for the thumbnail and final image, add a title and text for the thumbnail page, and finally add captions for each picture. The easiest way to see what the program can do is either give the program a go or look at some of the example web sites.
Starting Web Photo
Double click the icon!
Selecting the picture folder
Click the set button and select the folder required.
Viewing the pictures
Pictures can be viewed by either clicking on the file name in the list or by using the 'Previous' and 'Forward' buttons at the bottom of the page.
The selected picture will appear in the window.
(It should be noted that only valid jpeg (jpg) files will be available for selection in the list.)
Editing picture selection
Not all the pictures have to be used. By click on the box in the 'Use' column it is possible to select, and deselect, pictures that will be used for the final export.
Adding text
With the 'Site Text' tab selected five different sections of text can be added.
Window Title: This is the text that will appear in the title bar of the web browser window for the thumbnail and album pages.
Page Title: This will be the main title on the page. This text will appear on all pages (thumbnail and album).
Introductory Text: This will only appear on the thumbnail page.
Closing Text: This will only appear on the thumbnail page.
Copyright Information: This will appear on all pages.
Any text field that is not required can be left blank.
With the 'Picture Information' tab selected text for each picture can be added. This text will appear on the thumbnail and main album pages.
Resizing the pictures
With the 'Picture Information' tab selected it is possible to change the size of then thumbnail and main album pictures either individually or a default setting that will be applied to all pictures. (The default setting will only be overridden for pictures that have individual settings made.) All new sizes will be displayed.
Picture Information Tab
With the 'Picture Information' tab selected it is possible to enter the caption for the selected picture in the 'Picture Caption' box.
In addition, the details of the picture (i.e. size, file size, modification date) are also displayed and picture size can be edited (see above).
Site Generation Tab
The 'Site Generation Tab' gives control for the final output.
The final destination (output) folder can be selected using the 'Set' button (a check will be performed to prevent previous albums at the site being overwritten).
The 'Position of navigation link text' and 'Position of photo caption' can be individually set so the text is appears at the top or the bottom of the picture on the main album page.
The 'Export' button (which is only active once the destination (output) folder has been selected) generates the final site.
The Site
The site is generated using the 'Export' button in the 'Site Generation' window.
Export produces a folder called 'Album'. In this folder are two folders ('addpages' and 'thumb') and a file 'index.html'.
index.html: This is the main page for the site and contains the HTML code to generate the opening page with thumbnails and links from the pictures to the main viewing pages.
thumb: Contains the images to be displayed on the thumbnail (index.html) page.
addpages: This folder contains the pages that will display the pictures in a larger format complete with navigation links to next and previous pictures. In addition, this folder also contains an 'addpic' folder which as the picture files for display on the main picture pages.
