iCalMaker occasionally produces error messages. These error fall in to, roughly, two categories: user generated, and program generated. Listed below are some of the messages that can be produced, what the message means and how the problem can (in some cases) be solved.
Errors with code numbers
Some errors have code numbers associated with them (these are usually found in brackets at the end of the error message). Below is an explanation of the numbers (for errors without codes please see the next section).
The '1500' errors
The '1500' occur during the import of data from iCal files. These errors can be divided into two main groups, errors resulting from unsupported features of the iCal (vcal) format and errors resulting from poorly formatted iCal (vcal) files.
Error 1501: iCalMaker has encountered 3 problems with data being imported from an iCal file/calendar:
Error 1502: iCalMaker has encountered 2 problems with data being imported from an iCal file/calendar:
Error 1503: iCalMaker has encountered 2 problems with data being imported from an iCal file/calendar:
Error 1504: iCalMaker has encountered 2 problems with data being imported from an iCal file/calendar:
Error 1505: Your data file contains 'To Do' entries. These are not currently supported by iCalMaker and the data has therefore been removed from the displayed data. ('To Do' will be supported in a later version.) It should be noted that if you export this calendar, either as a file or direct to iCal, that it will not contain the 'To Do' data.
This error also features in errors 1501, 1502 and 1503.
Error 1506: iCalMaker has encountered an appointment entry detail that it cannot process. The data will be discarded.
This is classed as a 'Serious' error by MMISoftware because iCalMaker has encountered an appointment which contains a 'variable', i.e. a setting, which it cannot handle. This usual occurs as a result of some changes made in iCal, or when an iCal file is generated by a program that does not follow the vcal file format.
Please contact supporemail@mmisoftware.co.uk with details and a copy of the file which triggered the problem.
This error also features in errors 1501, 1502 and 1504.
Error 1507: Your data file contains an entry (or entries) that are not supported by iCalMaker.
This is classed as a 'Serious' error by MMISoftware because iCalMaker has encountered an entry in the file/data you are trying to import which it cannot handle. This is a very rare event.
Please contact supporemail@mmisoftware.co.uk with details and a copy of the file which triggered the problem.
"The list contains an event that finishes before it starts!"
As the message suggests! The list of events/appointments contains an entry that has a finish date/time that occurs before the start date/time and this message is generated as you try to save/export the data.
The problem can be easily corrected by looking for the offending event/entry and change the finishing date so it occurs after the start date. The event/entry causing problems should be highlighted.
"Please select a calendar for export."
You have tried to export some events to iCal and have not selected a calendar for export. Select a calendar in the pop-up list of calendars (on the tool bar) and repeat the export. Further information on exports.
"The calendar list has changed and your selected calendar is no longer available. Please select a new calendar for your export."
Since starting iCalMaker you have deleted a calendar in iCal. Use the 'Update Calendar List' in the 'Window' menu to update the list of calendars available for export, then, reselect the calendar you wish to use in the pop-up menu.
"There has been an error sending the calendar to the mail program. Please use the "Export to File" option and attach the file to your mail message."
The direct export to your default mail application has failed! (This is basically a catch for either when no default mail application has been set or where some system error has occurred.) The easiest solution to this problem is to an iCal file ('File' menu, 'Export...') and then attach the file to a mail message.
"There appears to be a problem with the data format. Please consult 'help' system for further information on importing from comma- or tab-delimited files."
This error occurs when there is a problem interpreting the format of a comma- or tab-delimited file. For further information and help please consult the section on the import of tab- or comma-delimited data.
"You have more than one column selected. Please only select one column."
You can only sort the appointment data, using the toolbar 'Sort' icon, when one column, e.g. start date, summary etc., is selected. Basically, you have tried to perform a search with more than one column selected! To resolve the problem just click on the header of the column you wish to sort by and click on the sort button again.
